Close Wethersfield Asylum Centre – No Prison, No Delays

JC

Whilst I was Home Secretary the number of people at Wethersfield Asylum Centre was capped and a closure date of 2027 was set.

The Labour Government has now announced plans to extend the use of the site to 2029 and increase the cap on numbers 800 to 1,245 residents. This is unacceptable.

This extension shows a complete lack of respect this Labour Government has for our local community.

I have consistently stated that Wethersfield is not an appropriate location for an asylum centre. I have pressed the Home Office to close the site and have met residents to hear their concerns.

Local people have had enough. That is why I am calling on the Government to scrap their disgraceful plans to extend and expand the Asylum Centre.

Make your voice heard by signing my petition.

I am calling on the Labour Government to:

  1. Not extend the SDO, and close Wethersfield Asylum Accommodation Centre as agreed in 2027.
  2. Reinstate the cap on numbers to protect both the site and the surrounding community.
  3. Rule out permanently any use of Wethersfield Airfield as a prison site.
